Join Us!

For over 125 years, people like you decided that they wanted to make a difference and became Volunteer Firefighters in Tenafly. As it has been since 1891, we are always looking for people to join our department.
Applicants must be 18 years of age and be a resident of Tenafly.
Please download the Expectations of New Members form which explains what will be expected of you as a new member of the department. The Application for Membership and Personal Identification Form are the two forms needed to apply. The forms must be completely filled out before we can accept them.
All applicants must pass a physical exam and a personal interview. The department will pay for the physical exam.
We provide all the necessary equipment and training to make you a New Jersey State Certified Firefighter I in the Bergen County Fire Academy in Mawah. This certification is required to complete a probationary period and become a regular member.
Additional training in fire related subject matter is also encouraged and supported by the department.
